The Institute for Public Art (IPA) is a global network of artists, urban designers, academics, government officials, art commissioning agencies, and lovers of art in public space. It focuses on public art as a place-maker and generator of social capital, worldwide. It contributes to animating collaborative events in the seven regions of the world, commissioning research, sharing information and promoting great examples.
The International Award for Public Art (IAPA) is an award intended to promote excellence amongst works of art centring around place-making that have been completed within the previous seven years. The award, with judges from each region of the world, is organised by the University of Shanghai and has taken place every two years since 2012. Please feel free to nominate your favourite artworks – the nominations form is available on the Contact page.
Case Studies in the archive section of this website are an extraordinary resource, collected from the shortlisted entries to the IAPA over the past fifteen years. Some case studies are also available through a partnership with the Public Art Archive (PAA). The entries at PAA can be viewed via the following link: International Award for Public Art: A program of the Institute for Public Art.
Conferences: the list of selected conferences with which IPA has organised or engaged will continue to expand as the IPA regional network hubs become more active.
Partners: IPA is proud to have worked with many partners and acknowledges the special contribution of both the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts (SAFA) at Shanghai University and the International Institute of Fine Arts (IIPA) at Shanghai University.
